Along with Chibok 100, this photographic series in which a series of defiant series of expressions are superimposed on black female skin were featured in Liz McQuiston’s Creative Dissent in the 21st Century which examined how artists around the world are intervening on localised and global politics. The series was intended to function as promotional images for a localised women’s project across Africa, yet the standalone images have taken on independent meaning and resonance for audiences.
